“Hmmm….. could be,” Bunaka frowned. “But that would be a little surprising. I mean, I’ve been watching you all day and guessed you were a bender of some kind. And as I said before Jin was always better at this than me. He probably figured it out after just one day and a lot less fruit,” Bunaka was really enjoying the thought that for once in his life HIS room was cleaner than Jin’s.
“WHERE ON EARTH ARE MY MANNERS!?” Bunaka shouted. “The name’s Bunaka! And yours?” he said offering his hand.

Aear sighed again and shrugged. She was still rather unsettled about last nights episode.
Tired as she was, Aear was prone to be scared twice as easily. When Bunaka shouted, she let out a yelp of surprise. She panted slightly and looked at his out stretched hand. She took it. "Aear. Nice to meet you." she said airily.
(Thats ok. I should probably get going anyway. And we reached page 6!)

“Ah, Aear. Such a lovely name for a Waterbender,” Bunaka said shaking her hand. As he saw the confusion spread across Aear’s face once again, he added, “Ah, you see. Your hand, it really DOES tell you more than you might think. The skin, texture and calluses that form on your hand will be very different from those of an Earthbender or Firebender. I’m sure Jin figured that one out pretty quickly too.”
Bunaka let Aear’s hand go. “So tell me Aear Water Wielder, when was it Jin was going to be training? I could use a good work out,” he said, rotating his right arm in a stretch as though he were going to wrestle Jin right here and now.

Her mother had never taught her this skill so Aear would just have to take Bunaka's word for it. She brought her hand back to her lap and subconciously began to do her own analysis of it.
She picked up her apple, took a few more bites, then tossed the rest into Terra's pen. She swallowed a bit too quickly and choked a little. "I would suspect in a couple hours." she said, still spluttering. Throat finally cleared, she added, "You can come with me if you like. I'm sure Jin would be happy to see you. Plus it would make things..." she cut off. "Feel free to hang around the shop until its time to go. You can even take Terra out if you want!" she said rapidly, motioning to the small pen beside the store. She sprang to her feet and went to the door.

Bunaka sighed. He knew something was upsetting the poor girl, but he didn’t stop her as she vanished into the store. “So help me Ginger, if you had a hand in this,” he threatened the ceiling of the porch looking up.
He slowly made his way to the pen where the ostrich horse was. “Terra?” he said to the solitary creature in the pen.
The giant creature looked lazily up from the apple Aear had thrown. “Would you? … like to go out?” Bunaka gulped. Terra responded with a loud squawk which caused him to fall backwards into the dirt.
“That’s fine! You just…. Stay there!” Bunaka said pushing his body backwards on the ground. He’d always been afraid of ostrich horses. Jin had never let him live that fact down. Suddenly feeling very small, he stood quickly and headed to the other side of the store.
“The side with fewer smelly creatures!” Bunaka shouted at Terra as he rounded the corner. Terra appreciated the silence that followed Bunaka’s departure. He saw a tree not too far from where he stood, and decided he might as well practice. Heck, ESPECIALLY if he was in fact going to fight Jin again.
He wiggled his fingers to loosen them up as he lined himself up with the tree trunk. He then lifted his arms straight up. Just as they went completely vertical at the elbow two kunai knives jumped from his sleeves into his hands. He threw them in one swift motion as he brought his hands down, each one hitting the trunk within inches of the other.
“Good way to get started,” Bunaka smiled to himself.
After throwing every knife he had on him, save for his two most trusted knuckle blades, the tree was looking quite worse for the wear. He inspected his work as he strode towards the trunk. He plucked each knife out carefully and wiped them all off before returning them to their hidden straps all over his body.
“Hmm… this isn’t as entertaining as I thought it might be,” he said after deciding the tree wouldn’t take much more punishment. He headed back into town. “Maybe I can score some more easy money,” he thought to himself remembering he lost all of the cash he had earned this morning to Cor. Besides, if he were lucky enough to insight a brawl, it would be a FAR better work out than throwing his weapons at a tree.

As soon as the door shut behind Aear, she was siezed by the shoulders. "What have you been doing!?" cried Cor's voice. His face was very close and very red. Aear gaped at him for a moment then said, "I was just talking to Bunaka. I'm sorry. I'll get right back to work." Cor gave her a rough push towards the basement. "You'd better! Bring up some more bananas, were out. And hurry up!" Aear nearly tripped again but caught herself on the counter and hastened down the stairs.
Her meeting with Bunaka had seemed to finally wake her. There were no more dropped crates that day. The last few hours of work did seem to go twice as slow however. She guessed it was because she was so anxious to see Jin and Bunaka again. She managed to get off an hour early. Cor was still quite pleased that her drop of the apple crate had earned him such a hefty amount of money.
She climbed the stairs up to her room and immedeatly fell face first onto her bed. She hoped that todays bending session would go better then yesterdays. She rolled onto her back and sighed. "I suppose I should get ready." she said aloud to herself. With a groan, she sat up, hair falling around her face like a curtain. She walked over to her closet and began to flick through its contents. She finally found the old bending outfit she had worn when she trained with her mother. She pulled it on, grabbed a bag, stuffed some money and an empty waterskin in it and headed downstairs.
She didnt see Bunaka anywhere so she tossed her bag onto a chair and went over to Terra's pen. "Hey girl." she said as Terra trotted over to her. Aear gave her a rub on the neck and thought it would be a good idea to take Terra to see Jin. "You want to get out a bit today? You havent been out in ages." Aear said smiling. She gave her another pat then leaned her back against the fence so she could keep an eye out for Bunaka.

“Oh man! You mean we have to taaaaaaaake that THING with us?” said Bunaka coming around the corner of the fruit stand. Terra squawked loudly and Aear gave him a vicious glare.
“Nooooooooot that I wouldn’t absolutely LOVE to do so!” Bunaka recovered…. poorly. He gave Aear a cheerful grin but kept his distance from the pen. “I’m just a little nervous around …. Such POWERFUL looking beast—I mean creatures,” he said as earnestly as he could to Aear, his grin fading a little at the mention of one of his only fears.

When Jin finally arrived home, he didn’t bother to remove his clothes. He simply fell face first on the bed and promptly drifted into sleep. The sun awoke him far earlier than he wanted. Silently curing its brilliance as he pushed himself onto an elbow he looked around his room.
It was a small single room shack. Heck, if he cared any less for the safety and comfort of himself and his possessions, he’d be living under the stars everyday. In fact, all week he had spent so much time in town, specifically the fruit store that sometimes he did JUST that. But he had said he’d find some books on Waterbending for Aear.
Aear…. The memories of what had happened last night came sweeping back. “Jeeze, I hope she can forgive me,” he mumbled to himself. He stood up and went to the wall opposite of his bed. It wasn’t so much a wall as much as it was a single enormous bookcase holding up a fourth of his home. He scanned it to make sure there was still the box labeled “The art of Waterbending; The stream of life and YOU”. It was, and now that he had satisfied that little tidbit he might as well get ready for the day.
He removed his tunic and shirt and went outside and to the back of his shack. There he entered a little stall of wood. He removed the last of his clothes and pulled a rope. A barrel of water that he kept on the side of his home started leaking water onto him.
“WHOA!” he shouted as the cold water hit him. He grabbed his soap and a rag and cleaned himself. When he finished washing he stopped the water by pulling a second smaller rope. He then picked some clothes that were hung from a line right beside his shower stall. He dressed and was headed for his fire pit to prepare the fire for cooking his breakfast when he heard a noise on the other side of his home. He walked carefully to the other side and found girl standing just beyond his garden. Her name was Konoharu but Jin couldn’t shake the feeling that he’d seen her before. He stared at her curiously until she said that she needed to deliver a message.
“Hardly anyone knows I live out here,” Jin said slowly gauging the girl’s response. He spoke the truth and not many people would even BEGIN to know where he could be found. Which is how he preferred it.
“For whom do you have a message for?” Jin asked the girl while keeping his focus up just in case something was amiss.

"Let me see, I,uh, think it's for someone named Aear," Kagoshi said unemotionally."I could have had someone else deliver the letter for me, like the post men, but a guy named Bunaka stole my money."

Aear rolled her eyes. It tickled her to know that someone who thought himself so great in battle was afraid an ostrich horse. She turned her back on Bunaka to open the gate and gave herself the pleasure of smiling at his unnerved state. The gate swung open. Aear walked in and grabbed a rope halter tied to the fence. She put it on Terra and led her out.
Bunaka's uneasy was very apparent as Terra came closer to him. Aear figured she should now be a little more considerate of his fears. "Dont worry. Terra is very sweet. Just relax, you'll be fine." she told Bunaka. She threw her bag over her other shoulder so it hung diagonal across her torso and, using the fence as a step stool, hoisted herself onto Terra's back. She adjusted her seating a bit farther up so Bunaka would have enough room then looked down at him. "Well, come on up."

“Bunaka?!” Jin said without thinking. “Couldn’t be…. Although…” the thought of this “Bunaka” stealing Konoharu’s money DID sound like the same one Jin had known his whole life.
“But wait, that wasn’t that important. Why did she bring a letter for Aear to ME out in the middle of nowhere?” Jin thought to himself. He wasn’t sure how to handle this request.
“If you simply need some money to send the letter, I can give you some,” Jin said to the girl tensing a little due to the strangeness of the request. Stepped to his front door and awaited what the girl had to say.

Clearly unwilling to deal with the ostrich horse, Bunaka diverted the conversation. “Saaaay Aear. Have you eaten lunch? You wouldn’t happen to be hungry, would’ya? ‘Cuz there is this fellow in town, he was nice enough to wager some money in a gentleman’s bet,” Bunaka said holding up yet another hefty pouch of money.
“My treat?” he said imploringly.

"Yes, Bunaka stole my money. And I didn't bring the letter to you, if that's what you were thinking," Kagoshi said, getting annoyed as she sat on a rock."I just found your cabin and happened to have it.I asked you a question though.DO you know Aear?

Aear chuckled and hung her head. It was obvious that she wasnt going to get him up here easily. "I suppose I could go for a meal. I am a little peckish." she told him smiling. She pulled on Terra's reins, making her start to circle Bunaka. "But are you sure you dont want to ride? Terra hasnt been out in ages and it would do her some good." She was determined to make Bunaka face his fear.

\\I need to let you guys know, College is killing me, so I won’t be able to post more than once a day, if that. Please forgive me.
Jin was more confused than ever by this girl. Perhaps it was still FAR to early for him to be dealing with this right now. Something about only like 4 hours of sleep is simply too much for him.
“Yes,” Jin said addressing the girl as pleasantly as he could, “I do know Aear. If you need me to deliver something to her, I’d be happy to oblige…. Free of charge,” he added with a smile remembering Bunaka and all the mischief he used to cause.

Bunaka knew that Aear’s heart was in the right place. And under other circumstances he just MIGHT have gotten up there. But once she set Terra circling him, Bunaka knew he wasn’t going to master ANY kinds of fears on this day.
As Terra circled him once more Bunaka dashed away from the two of them towards the rest of the city. “Bring the bird if you must,” he shouted playfully, “But forget what I said about ‘my treat’. Now if you want your free food, you need to catch me!”
With that he took off towards the city. Aear took no time in recognizing the challenge. She also decided that Terra could use the exorcise after being cooped up for so long.
Bunaka was fast though. He had been trained at an early age to be light his hands but even lighter with his feet. He dove in alleyways and behind statues and trees. Any chance to shake the chase Terra and Aear were making. Finally on a particularly long stretch of road the distance between Bunaka and Aear was closing. As they approached, Bunaka pulled his secret weapon from his pocket and threw it straight at Terra’s head.
The ostrich horse didn’t even flinch. Terra merely snatched the apple clean from the air and kept charging.
Swearing loudly at his failure Bunaka gave everything he had and ran down the street as fast as he could throwing a few more apples at Aear and Terra along the way. Once he ran out of apples he knew they were too fast. He stopped and dove to the side just as they charged right down the street where he was standing. Bunaka stood up in front of a building and dusted himself off.
“Dangit!” he shouted at Terra and Aear as they slowed and turned to face him. “Those were supposed to buy me at least SOME time!”

"Thank you!" Kagoshi fina;;y smiled." Here it is!" She pulled a small scroll from her pocket."I hope it gets there safely. Oh, and last time I saw him, Bunaka asked where the fruit shop was." She winked and started to walk away.

The girl left. She was actually quite nice given Jin's apprehension towards her. But her departure was miles away from Jin's thoughts.
"Bunaka was looking for the fruit stand." The words hung in Jin's mind.
"What would he be doing there? Wait a second. Whats he doing in this VILLAGE?!" Jin muttered to himself as the realization that Bunaka was actually here finally dawned on him.
Sighing loudly, Jin decided not to care. He was still FAR too tired for all this. He went to the back of his shack once again and started a small fire in a firepit he made. He threw some old fruit store boxes on it, as well as some old fruit contained within.
He went to a small cluster of rocks and used his bending to move the one closest to him revealing a small cave that had a few dead rabbits hung there. He cooked and ate it with what fruit hadn't gone bad.
After his meal he dressed in his plainest of tunics that allowed for maximum mobility. He then grabbed a satchel and started sorting threw his waterbending scrolls for ones Aear might find useful. He stuffed the half dozen or so scrolls with the heading, "For beginner to intermediate" into the satchel. He then placed the scroll from Konoharu into the bag as well. "I wonder whats so important about it," Jin thought. But he waved off the thought, he still had a long walk ahead of him.
Today he decided to wear his large round Earth Kingdom hat. He grabbed up some dried jerky and a mango or two and finally set out for the training spot Aear had taken him to last night.

The wind rushed through Aear's hair as Terra bolted forward after Bunaka. Aear was a little uneasy about jumping right into such a fast pace after having not ridden in quite a while. But soon the adrenaline got pumping and she couldn’t have been more relaxed.
The chase was short lived. Bunaka’s tossed apples did little to aid him. Aear pulled Terra around in the alley to face Bunaka. “Nice try.” she said, bringing Terra to a halt and dismounting. She walked over to Bunaka and put a hand on his shoulder. “Why don’t you keep your money; let’s just get to training.” she suggested. She returned to where Terra was now digging for bugs. With minimal protest, Terra allowed herself to be lead over to Bunaka.
Aear gave him a questioning look and mounted once more. “Last chance for a ride.”
